Our first trip in 1994 | The Intrepid Bundu Team today |
In 1994, Bundu was founded to share our passion for exploring Africa. Our early days saw us operating safaris into the Kruger National Park, then expanding throughout Southern Africa with our small group overland trips.
Trip styles range from Overland Adventures (long roads, big fun), to Comfort (travel with a soft landing) and Family (go wild with your tribe).
We are also the proud owners of the Thornhill Safari Lodge, situated amongst renowned Private Game Reserves adjacent to Kruger and make use of our own permanent tented camps within the Kruger Park.
In 2008 the Bundu Safari Company joined forces with Intrepid Travel, one of the world's leading suppliers of small group adventures. Like Bundu, Intrepid has a passion for getting off the beaten track and exploring the real world, and for the past 20 years they've shared that passion with thousands of travellers worldwide. By joining forces with Intrepid, Bundu is now able to offer adventures to around 100 countries throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Visit our global website on www.intrepidbundu.com.
So whether it be tracking Africa’s Big Five from an open 4x4 vehicle or on foot, the experience of gaining insight into Africa’s varying cultures and traditions, the thrill of jumping off the world’s highest bungy, rafting one of Africa’s wildest rivers or simply relaxing while taking in Africa’s awe inspiring beauty. We have the right combinations to make your African experience an unforgettable one.
We pride ourselves in service excellence at all times and are members of the various tourism governing authorities like SATSA, FGASA, THETA, SATOUR, CAPTOUR as well as members of Backpacking South Africa.

Responsible Tourism

Intrepid Bundu is committed to travelling in a way that is respectful of local people, their culture, local economies and the environment. With your participation we can help conserve the areas we visit and bring positive benefits to our host communities.
Intrepid Bundu is committed to a style of travel that is environmentally, culturally and socially responsible - we call this 'Responsible Travel'. It is implemented on our trips through the following features:
- Grass roots travel using local public transport where possible - minimises demand for special tourist vehicles and fuel.
- We choose small-scale locally owned accommodation and homestays where available and local restaurants and markets for dining, retaining revenue in local communities.
- Our group leaders facilitate communication of our values to travellers and local communities, educating them in sustainable tourism practices.
- We employ local guides to aid travellers' understanding of local culture and etiquette.
- Small groups allow travellers to experience cultures first hand, offering greater opportunity for cross- cultural understanding.
- We are committed to putting back into the communities and regions we visit by supporting many aid, development and conservation projects in these areas. Much of this support is through The Intrepid Foundation and travellers are invited to contribute.
